DEI Employee Spotlight: Grayce Turnbach (Pride Month)

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

If you’ve been at eMoney for a while, there’s a good chance you’ve seen my name in your inbox, on Teams, or somewhere on the Intranet. I’ve been with eMoney for nine years and currently serve as Senior Communications Manager on our Corporate Communications team.

Growing up in a large Irish and Italian family rooted in Catholic traditions, I spent a lot of time wondering whether I could be fully myself and still maintain the relationships that meant the most to me. But in 2019, my cousin Michael passed away unexpectedly at the age of 32. Losing him was heartbreaking, but it also changed my perspective. It reminded me how short life can be and forced me to ask myself whether I wanted to keep hiding a part of who I was. The answer was no.

Thankfully, when I came out shortly after Michael’s passing, I was met with far more acceptance, support, and love than I ever expected.

Today, I’m happily married to my wife, Christine, and in March 2025, we welcomed our daughter, Amelia Grace (“Mealie) after a long fertility journey. Becoming parents has been one of the greatest joys of our lives.

Tell us about your experience(s) as a member of the LGBTQ+ community.

I’ve experienced some of the stereotypes and misconceptions that many LGBTQIA+ people are familiar with. But I’ve also been incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by family, friends, coworkers, and a community that have supported me every step of the way. That support has reminded me that authenticity is worth it—and that most people simply want you to be happy.

What’s something people might not know about you?

Most of you know me as the person sending company emails, hosting Town Halls, and posting updates on Teams. What you may not know is that once my daughter goes to bed, there’s a pretty good chance you’ll find me playing Fortnite, NBA 2K, or GTA Online.

I’m not saying I’m good at any of them, but I am saying I’ve spent an embarssing amount of time convicing myself “one more game” is a reasonable decision at 10:30 p.m.

What does Pride mean to you?

For me, Pride is really about authenticity.

I spent a lot of years worrying about what other people might think and whether I’d be accepted if I shared this part of who I am. So when Pride comes around each year, it’s a reminder of how much lighter life feels when you’re no longer carrying that weight.

It’s also a reminder that everyone deserves to feel comfortable being themselves—without having to hide, explain, or apologize for who they are.

How do you typically celebrate Pride?

I’ve never attended a Pride parade, which usually surprises people. For a long time, I wasn’t comfortable enough in my own skin to imagine attending one. And before coming out, I didn’t feel like I had a place within the broader LGBTQIA+ community.

Today, that’s changed. My wife and I try to attend at least one Pride event every year. For us, it’s less about the event itself and more about taking a moment to appreciate how far we’ve come, the life and family we’ve built together, and spent time in a community that reminds people they’re not alone.

In your opinion, how does eMoney support an inclusive work environment?

Something I’ve always appreciated most in my nine years at eMoney is that people are encouraged to bring their whole selves to work.

In fact, I was working at eMoney when I made the decision to come out. At the time, I had no idea how people would react. There was a lot of uncertainty and vulnerability that came with sharing such a personal part of myself.

What I found instead was support.

From my teammates to leaders across the organization, people showed up with kindness, acceptance, and genuine care. Nobody made me feel different. Nobody made me feel like I didn’t belong.

For me, inclusion isn’t just about policies or programs—it’s about creating an environment where people feel safe being who they are. I’m grateful that eMoney was that place for me, and I hope it’s that place for others as well.
