Internal Communications Survey Findings

Marketing May 19, 2023 Elizabeth Mazanek

Earlier this year, the Corporate Communications team asked for your feedback about our internal communications, which are a critical component of the employee experience and an ongoing reflection of the eMoney brand. We set out to achieve the following goals:

  • Understand how you view the quality of eMoney’s internal communications content and channels
  • Learn more about your preferences
  • Capture insight into how information flows through our organizations
  • Identify areas for improvement
  • Gather feedback that fuels new ideas

We had more than 300 employees complete the internal communications survey and received more than 100 different pieces of individual feedback! Thanks so much to each of you who took time out of your schedule to complete the survey! Your feedback will help influence our path forward for internal communications.

We’re pleased to share a summary of the survey findings. You can also see additional results and insights by clicking the report link below.

Key Takeaways

  • Satisfaction with internal communications is generally high.
    • 43% of respondents were extremely or very satisfied with communications at eMoney; while 42% said they were somewhat or passively satisfied.
  • Employees want more communication around company news and updates.
    • 71% of respondents prefer company news and updates over other newsletter content.
  • Email is the significantly preferred channel for receiving company news and updates.
    • 74% of respondents prefer email for receiving company news and updates.
  • Channels with the highest participation are Town Hall and Teams, both of which also score amongst the highest for being informative and helpful.
    • 89% of respondents participate in Town Hall, and 88% of employees are active on Teams.
  • The majority (88%) of respondents find communications from their manager effective or extremely effective.

Opportunities for Improvement

Responses to both the open-ended and close-ended questions indicated areas we can improve. They include:

  • The desire for more frequent information on the company, such as updates on strategy, performance, and market metrics. And they tend to want to hear more about these topics from leadership.
  • The need for better/easier ways to find information. Information found in multiple places (newsletter, intranet, Service Portal, etc.) can seem overwhelming, and employees can’t find what they’re looking for.

Feedback that Fuels New Ideas

We gathered a ton of additional feedback from respondents about the type of content you prefer to learn more about, including more information about departments and roles at eMoney, more insights on product planning, competitor insights and industry trends, more updates about team wins and big projects, and more timely communication around organizational announcements. Many of you also shared great ideas about how we can best deliver this news, including resharing communications across multiple channels to ensure they are not missed, sending life@eMoney at the same time every week and archiving it on the Intranet, and tutorials on how to navigate the Intranet.

Next Steps

We want to thank all of you for your feedback and suggestions, and we plan to implement several of your ideas in the short and long-term. In the future, we hope to evaluate options with new vendors that can create enhanced user experiences for internal communications. In the meantime, check out our next steps below!

Immediately

  • Life@eMoney will be sent every Friday between 12 and 1 p.m. ET to ensure consistency.
  • Once sent, a link to life@eMoney will be shared via Microsoft Teams > eMoney General for those who may be more engaged on Teams.
  • All 2023 life@eMoney newsletters will be archived on the Intranet so you don’t have to go searching through your email.
  • More “Meet the Team” sessions will be scheduled to give you the opportunity to learn about your colleagues and what their teams are responsible for at eMoney.
    • Stay tuned for an invite to “Meet the Finance Team” coming in June!

Short-term

  • Create more timely touchpoints to share company news and updates outside of Town Hall. These will likely include more weekly articles and features in life@eMoney.
