I’ve been at eMoney for 5 years and am currently a Supervisor for the QA Performance team
I was initially hired as an automation engineer; however, a lead position became available for the performance team for which I was selected. From there I would be promoted to my current role as the QA Performance team Supervisor overseeing an onshore and offshore team.
Incorporating a leadership style (i.e. leading by example) is important to identify and establish early in your career. I realized that seeing people as individuals rather than a means of an end to a transaction or task is far more beneficial than focusing on the technicalities of getting things done. A great leader keeps people at the center of the circle. Leading by example has granted me the opportunity to build strong working relationships, which in turn, has fostered a positive work culture with those I interact with on a day-to-day basis.
I’ve recently attended and completed the DIG Leading with Purpose series which has been beneficial to my leadership development by continuing to assist me in setting priorities, coaching, delegating, and effectively leading my teams.
I also completed a Pluralsight course entitled Leadership: Getting Started by Jason Alba, which provided context as to what leadership is, learning the different leadership styles and contrasting them with management.
I have been with eMoney for 8 years. I joined in June 2014 and now lead eMoney’s Collaborate Planning Services offering and manage eMoney’s RIA, eMoney Planning Services.
Leadership skills, management skills, customer service skills, eMoney planning skills, communication skills, expanding my knowledge of business acumen, etc. If I didn’t know it when I graduated college, and I know it now, I developed it at eMoney.
When I was working in Client Services, and later in Tier II support, I always felt like eMoney was missing an opportunity to provide outsourced planning as a premium add-on service. In addition, I wanted to be a little closer to real-world planning, providing my own recommendations to help clients (end-investors) meet their goals and objectives. Both of these interests collided when Matt Schulte and other leaders in FPG gave me the opportunity to develop a business case for what would eventually become Collaborate Planning Services.
Closing deals. There are a number of exciting parts of my day, but there isn’t quite anything like getting an email from Docusign that a quote was signed. I also enjoy watching my team develop; lightbulb moments continue to fuel my passion.
That I’m still with eMoney! I expected to develop my skills on the platform for about a year in Client Services and then jump to an RIA. However, since I’ve been able to develop my career here, I haven’t had the need to go elsewhere.
Search for and cherish ways to provide value. This doesn’t always manifest itself in something large or within your job description, but you can always find small ways (within or outside of your role description) to deliver value, such as helping a person who is not on your team, or even in your department, or learn something new in Excel, PowerPoint, or any other tool you use in your role. If you make it a habit to find ways to be valuable, you will be regarded as a valuable contributor.

I have been at eMoney for seven years. I am the development manager for the parser team. I started as a software engineering co-op on the parser team and then eventually became a co-tech lead. Then I transitioned to supervisor and then manager at the end of 2019.
My career has grown immensely since starting at eMoney. I went from co-op to developer and now manager.
I used the tuition assistance program to pursue my master’s degree, and I also took advantage of some of the career development sessions for managers that PX does. I also participated in a book club with my manager and other supervisors in my department where we read and discussed books about effective software engineering management.
My favorite thing about my current role is the people that I get to work with every day. I manage a team of extremely hard workers who are dedicated to getting their jobs done and helping our clients. My department, the Data Aggregation Art is very collaborative and the teams within the ART work together very well.
If you are presented with a good opportunity you should consider it and explore it, even if it doesn’t fully align with what you envisioned as your career path.
I absolutely love Brandon’s comment about providing value. This really resonates for me as I also believe it is vital to think about your contribution in terms of value, not just the time you are logged into work. Its what you do with that time that really matters. Thanks so much to all the panelists for sharing!!
