Tax season is underway, and this year’s filing deadline for most taxpayers to submit a 2021 tax return or file for an extension is Monday, April 18, 2022. For Maine and Massachusetts residents, the tax filing deadline is Tuesday, April 19, 2022. Taxpayers requesting an extension have until Monday, Oct. 17, 2022 to file. If you meet these deadlines, you can check your refund status (if applicable) on the IRS’ website. However, if you miss these important tax deadlines, there are “failure to file” and “failure to pay” penalties.
