Meet Tom Kuzeja

Employee Spotlight August 21, 2021 Grayce Turnbach

How do you take your coffee? BLACK! (Is there any other way?)

Any hidden talents? I love video production (writing/acting/directing/producing/editing)

What’s your favorite quote?
“What anyone else thinks about me is none of my business”

What’s your favorite emoji?
The Vulcan, “Live Long and Prosper”

Favorite meal? Grilled steak and chicken shish kabobs with corn on the cob and Caesar and potato salads.  Or… just dessert!

What’s your favorite place to travel? Walt Disney World

Dogs or cats? Both (they’re both looking at me right now)

What was the best piece advice you ever received?
Two things I try to always consider, “Always be kind because you never know what someone else is going through,” and also, “It’s not things that matter, it’s people and relationships that do.”

What does a day off look like for you?
OFF GRID! A nice walk with my wife and our dog to start the day. Do something outdoors like golfing, biking or kayaking in the afternoon. Get to the beach on the Cape toward the of the day after crowds have left and relax while watching and listening to the waves. Finish the day by the fire pit with drinks and visiting with family and friends.

Have you bought anything on the eMpower shop with your points or are you saving for a big purchase?
Mostly Amazon Gift cards that I convert into some other things like audio/video recording gear.

Last show you binged or movie you watched?
Great News on Netflix (missed this when it was on NBC in 2017 but it is silly, fun, witty and an easy binge as there are only two seasons)

Favorite book or podcast?
The Catcher in the Rye. I re-read it often.

What were you doing 20 years ago?
I was a few months into balancing time between my second technology start up with 8 other people and helping my wife raise our two young daughters.

What is one thing from the year 2000/early 2000s you’re ashamed to admit you love? SpongeBob SquarePants

What’s your favorite song from the year 2000/early 2000s (the year eMoney was founded)?
Are you kidding me? I can’t remember what I had for breakfast.  I had to Google it.  Aside from constantly listening to Disney songs with my daughters in the car, I do remember enjoying Faith Hill’s CD, “Breathe”.

Describe eMoney in three words. Focus. Dedication. People.

What is your favorite thing about eMoney?
That’s easy, it’s the people. I am learning so much from people who are exceptional in what they do.  I’m not worthy!

What is your favorite project that you’ve worked on while with eMoney?
I love working on Decision Center!  It requires a great blend of technologies. Knowing how frequently it is used in production is gratifying.  Even more so, I enjoy our experimentation sprints where we can try things that might be out of scope for product delivery but lead to some interesting finds.

What’s your best memory at eMoney?
Social events where we get to visit with people we only see online and talk to some of the leadership in person. Since technically I’m based in the Providence office, I’ve enjoyed all the visits I’ve been able to make to Radnor and catch up with friends face to face.  There’s nothing like sharing some non-work conversations with folks in a relaxed environment to help build camaraderie.

If you could switch your job with anyone else within eMoney, whose job would you want and why? I might switch with someone in UX. I used to lead a Usability group years ago and I’ve always found looking at a product from a user’s perspective to be interesting, challenging and rewarding.
